WAIVER OF MINIMUM ACCUPLACER PLACEMENT SCORE REQUIREMENTS Prior to enrolling in classes, all students meet with their advisors for class selection. A student wishing to enroll in an Algebra or Calculus course will review their Accuplacer score and their mathematical experience with their advisor. The student will then be placed into an appropriate mathematics course based on the Accuplacer and prerequisite requirements detailed above. Recognizing, however, that Accuplacer scores are not infallible indicators of student preparation or potential for success, a procedure has been established by the Mathematics Department for students to petition for a waiver of the stated minimum Accuplacer score requirements. If a student's Accuplacer score is below the minimum score required for admission into a course, the student can still enroll in the course if the following procedure is completed:
By requesting a waiver of the minimum Accuplacer score requirements, the petitioning student will recognize that their mathematical preparation may be inadequate for the successful completion of the petitioned course. Furthermore, this petition procedure will insure that the students advisor and the course instructor are aware that the student is enrolling in a mathematics course for which the student may be unprepared |
