Press Releases Southwestern College Establishes
Science Hall of Fame "Alumni have expressed concern that they are not aware of what fellow classmates are doing," says Susan Lowe, director of alumni programs. "One of our goals with the hall of fame is to help alumni reconnect with each other and with the college. We also want to honor alumni who have made significant contributions upon leaving SC." Candidates for induction will be considered based on their achievements, professionalism, and character. All candidates must be graduates of Southwestern College. "Many Southwestern science graduates have gone on to become leaders at universities, in industry, and in medicine," says Bob Gallup, associate professor of physics. "Most of their classmates - and even those of us at the college - are unaware of their accomplishments. The science hall of fame is a way to get their stories out." Southwestern has three additional halls of fame: the Southwestern College Athletic Hall of Fame, the Southwestern College Educators Hall of Fame, and the Southwestern College Mass Communications and Film Hall of Fame. The science hall of fame will be displayed in the new Beech Science Center. Nominations will be received from alumni and friends of the college upon submission of a completed nomination form. Forms can be obtained by calling Southwestern's alumni programs office at (316) 229-6334; by mail at 100 College St., Winfield, KS 67156; or by e-mail at slowe@sckans.edu. A form can also be obtained through the alumni page on the SC Web site, under Halls of Fame (www.sckans.edu). Once a nomination has been submitted, the nominee will be eligible for selection for five years. |
