  • Graduates Continue Their Education in Science.
This fall, a number of our biology and biochemistry graduates will be starting their education at institutions of higher learning across the country.  Students beginning graduate work in biology include:
    • We have a large crop of graduates going onto medical school this year.  Kristi Weaver (biology major from Wichita) will be attending the University of Health Sciences.  Elda Perales (biology major from Salina), Kari Good (biology major from Salina), Casey Dreitz (biology and biochemistry major from Plains), and Emily Bauer (biochemistry major from ????), will be starting their first year at the University of Kansas' School of Medicine.  Both Casey and Emily are part of KU's Scholars in Primary Care Program, which only accepts six students a year from the state of Kansas.  Over the past 6 years of its existence, Southwestern has placed more students into this program than any other Kansas school other than KU or KSU.
    • Jonathan Heckmann, biology major from Highlands Ranch, CO, will be starting a Master's research program at Wichita State University.  He hopes to carry out his research on environmental toxicology and animal behavior.
    • J.D. Sills-Powell, biology major from Rose Hill, hopes to be starting a graduate program in Medical Science at Barry University.
    • Eren Martin, biology major from Wichita, hopes to be starting a graduate program in Transpersonal Psychology from the Atlantic University.
    • Erin Eis, biology major from Winfield, will be starting a Master's program in Physical Therapy at Wichita State University.
    • Justin Dilner, biochemistry major from Douglass, will be starting his first year of dental school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City.
    • Joe David Gilmore, biology major from Wichita, will be starting a Master's program in Exercise Physiology at Wichita State University.
    • A number of are other graduates are taking a year off before pursuing graduate work.  Check back for later updates on their successes.
