Graduates
Alex Chen ('07)
(Fall 2007) Alex is working on a Ph.D. in
statistics at Colorado State University. He has a teaching assistantship and
teaches two labs.
Alex Stong ('07)
(Fall 2007)
Alex married Brian Brazill on August 3, 2007. They live in North Carolina
where Brian is stationed at the marine corps base at
Camp Lejeune.
Rachel Pollock ('07)
(Fall 2007)
Rachel entered the
doctoral program in physics at the University of Maine in the fall of 2007.
Shalah Allison ('05)
(Fall 2007)
Shalah is currently an officer in the Navy's Cryptographic program and has
been deployed to the east African nation of Djibouti.
(Fall 2005) Shalah was one of four candidates selected from a national pool of
applicants for acceptance into the Navy’s Cryptologic Officer Training
Program. Naval Cryptologic Officers have responsibilities in the areas of
communications, information systems security, and the collection and
analysis of intelligence. She entered Officer Candidate School in
Pensacola,
Florida in October 2005.
Moses Mungania ('05)
(Fall 2006) Moses is currently working on a Ph.D. in Mathematics at the
University of Missouri, Columbia.
Natalie Terry ('05)
(Spring 2006) Natalie is now teaching at Winfield High School.
(Fall 2005)
Natalie is is currently (Fall 2005) doing her student teaching in physics
and math at Derby High School in Derby, Kansas. She is considering going to graduate school
in physics in the future.
Evan Pollock ('05)
(Fall 2005)
Evan is now in graduate school at the University of Maine working on a Ph.D.
in physics.
Angela Pooler ('04)
(Fall 2007)
Angela completed a master of science degree in physics at the University of
Kentucky in May 2007 and entered the doctoral program in physics at Baylor
University in the fall of 2007.
(Fall 2006) Angela, a current graduate student in the
Physics Department at the University of Kentucky, was selected to receive
the University of Kentucky Graduate Teaching Assistant of the Year Award for
2005-2006.
(Fall 2006) In May of 2006 Angela completed two years of graduate study
in physics at the University of Kentucky. She has now completed two
semesters of Electricity and Magnetism out of Jackson with the highest
scores in her class for both semesters. Her research is in experimental
condensed matter physics and has had several papers published in Physical
Review Letters B. Angela wants to teach physics at the college level after
receiving her Ph.D.
(Late Spring 2005) Angela completed her first year in graduate school
with flying colors. She is working on a Ph.D. in physics at the University
of Kentucky. She will be doing research during the summer of 2005 in condensed
matter working with Y_2Nb_2O_7.
(Fall 2004)
Angela has begun graduate studies in
physics at the University of Kentucky. She also married fellow SC physics
alum Matt Douglass in August of 2004 before leaving for Kentucky.
Collin Stucky ('03)
(Fall 2007) Collin is now living in the Kansas City
area and is considering pursuing a teaching certificate.
(Fall 2004) Collin has
moved to Oregon.
Matt Douglass ('03)
(Fall 2007)
Matt entered the doctoral program in philosophy at Baylor University in the
fall of 2007.
(Fall 2006) Matt graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore,
Kentucky with a Masters in Theological Studies in May of 2006. He plans on
taking a year off from school and then applying to the Ph.D. program at
Asbury for the Fall of 2007. Matt wants to teach religion and philosophy at
the college level after finishing school.

Matt married fellow SC physics
alum Angela Pooler in August of 2004.
(Fall 2003) Matt is attending Asbury Theological
Seminary. He wants to teach religion and philosophy at a seminary as a
career.
Nathanael Wheatley ('03)
(Fall 2006) Nathanael is now working at Black and Veatch in Overland
Park, Kansas. Black and Veatch Corporation is a leading global engineering,
consulting and construction company.
(Spring 2006) Nathanael is now going to Pittsburg State University
where he is working on a masters in education. He received a graduate
assistantship to supervise student workers in a computer lab for the
education department.
(Fall 2005) Nathanael graduated with a
B.S. in Electrical
Engineering degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in May
of 2005. He was
participating in the Dual-Degree program with the
School of Engineering and Applied Science at
Washington University.
Warren Bergquist ('03)
(Fall 2005) Warren
graduated with a civil engineering degree from Washington University in St. Louis,
Missouri in May of 2005. He was participating in the Dual-Degree program with the
School of Engineering and Applied
Science at Washington University. Warren received the Harold P. Brown
Fellowship while at Washington University.
Brown Fellows are selected on the
basis of their academic record, their involvement in extracurricular
activities, and their promise for professional achievement in engineering.
Brown Fellows receive a full-tuition scholarship and a stipend.
Warren is currently (Fall 2005)
working on a masters in civil engineering at Washington University and
working at
Alper Audi, Inc. in St. Louis.
Kristin Kraemer ('02)
(Fall 2002) Kristin Kraemer has entered the PhD program in physics at the
University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She plans to continue the research on
thin-film ferroelectrics that she began during an NSF-REU at Nebraska,
Lincoln during the summer of 2000.
James Larson ('02)
(Fall 2002) James Larson, a dual major in physics and biology, has
entered the PhD program in biology at Notre Dame University. James plans to
study the environmental impact of a class of compounds known as ionic
liquids that are proposed alternatives to conventional, and often toxic,
industrial solvents.
Melissa Nichols ('01)
(Fall 2005) Melissa is currently Adjunct Instructor in Physics and
Mathematics at Southwestern College. She is teaching College Algebra,
Trigonometry, and the College and General Physics labs. Melissa is also
working on a masters degree in education.
Melissa graduated with a degree in physics and math
in May of 2001. She wants to go to graduate school and eventually teach
physics and math at the college level. In the fall of 2002 she was teaching two
sections of College Algebra at Southwestern and three sections of
Intermediate Algebra at Cowley Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas.
She was also a lab aid for the physics department at Southwestern.
Melissa transferred to Southwestern College from
Butler County Community College in the fall of 1999. Her husband's name is
Greg and the couple have two children, Isaac 4 and Samantha 8. While
at Southwestern Melissa was a grader for the physics department, and
assisted in the introductory physics labs.
Greg Bomhoff ('01)
(Fall 2001) Greg graduated from Southwestern in May 2001 with a degree in physics and
biochemistry. Currently Greg is in the PhD program in the Biochemistry
Department of the University of Kansas.
While at Southwestern, Greg was a 4-time NAIA Academic
All-American and 1999 NAIA Track & Field All-American in the marathon. He
was a lab aid for the physics department for the school year 2000 - 2001. In
the summer of 1999 he participated in a REU at the University of Kansas in
the Department of Chemistry. In the summer 2000 he was at the University of
Oregon's Institute of Marine Biology for an REU. His interests included
cross country and track.
Jeff Rahm ('00)
(Fall
2005) Jeff has been working in Madison, Wisconsin at the State of Wisconsin
Investment Board (SWIB) since early June of 2005 as a fixed income
securities analyst.
Before moving to Wisconsin Jeff graduated with a MBA degree from the Tippie School of Management at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
Before moving to Iowa Jeff worked at Cessna Aircraft in Wichita,
Kansas as a Mass Properties Engineer in the Mass Properties
Engineering Sustaining Group.
Jana Wallace ('99)
(Fall 1999) Currently teaching physics in the Hutchinson, Kansas School
District.
Steven Graham ('99)
(Fall 1999) Steven is a Wichita State University, M.S. student in
Physics with an emphasis in Astronomy. He is a research assistant in the Low
Temperature Astrophysics Group (LOTAG) funded by a NASA grant. He is
currently studying active galactic nuclei. His goal is to enter the PhD
program in Physics at the NASA Langley Center and work for NASA after
graduation.

Jason Speegle ('99)
(Fall 2007)
Jason and Mandie are currently missionaries in the Dominican Republic and
and have adopted a Dominican baby. Edwin Speegle joined their family in
August 2007.
(Spring 2004)
Jason taught a physics class at a Dominican
Republic high school for the spring semester of 2004. He plans to teach
there again next year. Jason lives in the Dominican Republic with his wife
Mandie. They operate a dental clinic there.
Before moving to the Dominican
Republic, Jason worked at Cessna Aircraft in
Wichita, Kansas as Non-Destructive Testing
Engineer in the Materials & Processes NDE Group. He also worked on a
masters in Mechanical Engineering at Wichita State University.
Bart O'Brien ('99)
(Fall 1999) Pursuing a PhD degree in Chemistry at Penn State
University.
Kristen K. Pettey (Martin) ('98)
(Dec. 2002) Kristen finished her MBA at
Southwestern College in December of 2002. She is currently working for
Rubbermaid in Winfield, Kansas as a Quality
Assurance/Process Improvement Manager.
Before going to Rubbermaid, Kristen
worked as a Product/Process Specialist with GE
Engine Services, Inc at Strother Field, Arkansas City, Kansas.
Before going to GE, Kristen worked at Cessna
Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas for three years as a Safety Engineer in the
Systems Safety & Reliability Group. Her job was to calculate failure
possibilities.
Jennifer Crispin ('98)
(Fall 2000) Jennifer Crispin received a Master's of Science in Physics at Michigan
State University in May of 2000. She is currently in the PhD program in the
Environmental Science Department at the University of Arizona.
Kenisha Bell ('98)
(Fall 1999) Currently employed as a Flight Performance Engineer at Cessna Aircraft
Company in Wichita, Kansas.
Chris Holt ('97)
(Fall 2006) Chris is a registered patent attorney with experience
prosecuting U.S. and foreign patents in the electrical and mechanical
fields, as well as for a broad range of computer hardware and software
inventions. He received his law degree from the University of Kansas in
2000. Chris is also an adjunct writing professor at the William Mitchell
College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. He currently lives in Edina,
Minnesota...a suburb of Minneapolis. His employer is a law firm called
Westman, Champlin & Kelly (Minneapolis). Much of his time is spent preparing
and prosecuting applications for Microsoft.
Brandon Summer ('97)
(Summer 2006) Brandon's wife, Donelle,
has been accepted into seminary school, and as a result, Brandon has
resigned his job at Winfield High School and will be moving his family out
of Winfield.
(Fall 1998) Currently teaching Mathematics and Physics in the Winfield,
Kansas School District.
Carey Lybarger (Eskridge) ('97)
(Fall 2006)
Carey Eskridge Lybarger is now teaching engineering courses for Project Lead
the Way at Winfield High School.
(Summer 2006) Carey will be leaving Oxford High School
and will be replacing Brandon Summer ('97) at Winfield High School.
Initially, she'll be teaching math classes.
(Fall 1999) Currently teaching Mathematics and Physical Science in the Oxford, Kansas
School District.
David Glantz ('96)
Graduated from Kansas State University with a Master of Science in
Software Engineering.
Stephanie Satterlee (Mills) ('95)
After graduation
Stephanie was employed by Total Refining
Corporation as a chemist.
Currently (Nov. 2002) works at Medicalodge East Healthcare Center.
Medicalodge is a long term care facility in Arkansas City,
Kansas. Stephanie has a seven year old son, Heath.

State University.
Currently works at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, TX.
He's working in the Space Science Group.
Bart Dennett ('92)
Paul D. McDonald ('91)
(Spring 2003) Paul is
the manager of Business Information Engineering at LabOne, Inc. in Lenexa,
Kansas. Paul married Kristine Eileen on June 27, 2003 at Medinah Baptist
Church in Medinah, Illinois. The couple live in Lenexa, Kansas.
Before moving to Lenexa, Kansas, Paul was the CEO/President of SPIKEware, Inc., a computer
consulting firm based in West Dundee, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago). The
company is a small shop that completes project work for other companies in
the SAS programming and data analysis field. Paul regularly presents papers
on the subject for peer review for user groups at both the local and
international level.
Paul completed his M.B.A. in Finance in 1997 from Keller Graduate School
of Management in Chicago. When he's not working, he leads volunteer serving
teams at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois.
